Orsini Named Acting-Library Director

CREST HAVEN – The promotion of Andrea Orsini as acting library director of the Cape May County Library system was approved by freeholders May 14. She replaces Deb Poillon, who retired.
Her appointment, listed in the salary resolution, states the effective date was April 26, 2019 at an annual salary of $100,292.
Named as acting assistant librarian, also effective April 26, 2019, was Natalie Nizolek at an annual salary of $77,500.
County employee salaries, including promotions, new hires and other actions are listed after being approved by freeholders and are posted biweekly after freeholders’ meetings on the Herald website under Public Records, Government Salaries.
In other action the board:
* Reappointed the following deputy fire marshals with terms from Jan. 1, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2020: Stephen Schaffer, Lewis Ostrander, Rocco DiSilvestro, Richard Harron Jr.
* Added Douglas Nordberg of North Wildwood to the county Solid Waste Advisory Council.
* Congratulated Charlotte and Ron Anderson as Outstanding Senior Citizens for 2019. The couple worked “tirelessly and compassionately with self-less dedication” for many years for the wellbeing of dogs and cats in the county. They were cited for their work May 2 at the Senior Citizens’ Jamboree.
* Lauded Lazarus House Emergency Food Pantry as Outstanding Organization of 2019. In 2018, the charity served over 16,122 guests from the Wildwoods with food and other resources for those in need. It was also cited at the May 2 jamboree.
* Designated May as “Older Americans Month” in the county, which has over 30,000 older residents, or 31.5% of the total population “who enrich and strengthen our community,” according to a resolution.
* Approved a $300,000 revolving commercial fishing loan to F/V Barbara Pauline Inc. The loan is for seven years at 2% interest. The corporation is located on Yacht Avenue, Cape May. Doug Wilson personally guaranteed the loan.
* Approved a $15,937 contract with Remington and Vernick Engineers, Inc. for construction engineering services for Ocean Drive over Upper Thorofare and Mill Creek Bridge repair and approach guide rail replacement. The bridges are in Lower Township.
* Passed a resolution agreeing to work with the Army Corps of Engineers for shoreline erosion protection along Delaware Avenue, Cape May which is eroding due to water from Cape May Harbor.
* By a resolution asked New Jersey Transit to extend bus service to the south end of Sea Isle City due to the closure of the Townsend’s Inlet Bridge for construction. The routes involved would be 315 and 319.
