WILDWOOD – Cape May County’s One-Stop Career Center is sponsored by the Cape May County Division of Workforce Development and is offering free computer-skills classes Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The One-Stop Career Center provides job training, education grants, and employment services to eligible residents. Individuals looking to find employment or to update their computer skills are encouraged to contact the center and to participate in this program. The following free classes are currently available at the One-Stop Career Center:
• Basic computer skills
• Internet and email
• Microsoft Word
Freeholder Will Morey, liaison to the Division of Workforce Development, said, “The One-Stop Career Center is a great resource for individuals seeking to gain valuable skills and training to ready them for the workforce. I highly encourage our local residents to explore all that the One-Stop Career Center has to offer by calling or stopping in to speak with the center’s knowledgeable representatives.”
In addition, the Workforce Development program offers eligible residents education and training grants up to $4,000, and paid on-the-job-training opportunities.
Education and training grants are available for in-demand jobs such as: Dental Assistant, Computer Technology, HVAC/Plumbing, Certified Nurse Assistant, CDL, Culinary Arts, Skin Care Specialist, Welding, Pharmacy Technician, Cosmetology, Office Network Specialist, Electrician, Auto Mechanic, and more.
For those looking for on-the-job training, the Workforce Development program provides an opportunity for unemployed workers to learn a new trade while being paid up to 26 weeks. The goal is for workers to learn while on the job which can lead to full-time employment. The One-Stop Center is staffed with an OJT specialist for those seeking more information regarding current employers participating in the program.
The One-Stop Center also provides an array of job training, education, and employment services that target unemployed and dislocated workers, youths, veterans, ex-offenders, age 55-plus, and those who have a physical or mental disability. The center also offers residents access to personal computers, internet access, telephones, and copy and fax machines.
For those who need help preparing for work, the center also provides workshops, classes and assistance for the following:
• GED/ESL classes
• Career counseling
• Job market information
• Resume writing
• Interview/job skills training
• Education tuition waiver opportunities
