CREST HAVEN – An old landfill, now owned by Cape May County, is proving costly for remediation.
Freeholders approved a $247,500 contract to Sadat Associates Inc. of Trenton at the Feb. 11 meeting. The site is adjacent to Cape May County Airport on Fulling Mill Road, and has been closed for many years.
However, the clock is ticking to get site remediation underway by early May, said County Engineer Dale Foster. If remediation contracts are not in place by then, he said, the state Department of Environmental Protection will undertake the work, and bill the property owner.
The contract is for professional engineering and license site remediation service on County Road 654 between Lower and Middle townships.
This is not the first contract between Sadat Associates and the county. On April 24, 2012 the county engaged the firm as licensed site remediation professionals to oversee the investigation and site cleanup at the county-owned former landfill.
