OCEAN CITY — The Ocean City police were called to investigate a theft in the 900 block of Asbury Avenue on April 8.
An employee working at the store said that a suspicious female was in the store and had been hanging around the area that contained the employee’s personal items. When the female left the store the employee noticed that approximately $60 was taken from her purse.
The employee provided the officers with a description of the female suspect. The investigating officers then walked along Asbury Avenue questioning other store owners about any sightings of the suspect. Based on the description provided by the officers another store owner was able to identify the female suspect as a person that had been in his store recently applying for a job. A name and address was given to the officers of the suspect.
The officers went to an address in the 1100 block of Central Avenue where they located the female suspect, Tanya Cuthbert, 30 of Ocean City, and questioned her about the incident. Based on interviews conducted by the investigating officers and an identification of the suspect by the victim, Cuthbert was arrested and charged with theft.
Cuthbert during her interview indicated that she had made attempts to steal money at other store locations in the downtown shopping district. If any employee of a local business believes that the accused was in their store and has committed a theft then they should contact the Ocean City Police Detective Bureau.
The investigation is currently ongoing by Det. Stephen Sullivan. Arresting Officers were Ptl. Mike Gray and Ptl. Pat Walsh.
Cuthbert, age 30, was released on summons.
