By Press Release

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Frank A. LoBiondo (R-2nd), a member of the House Aviation Subcommittee, July 28 announced $1,315,757 in federal funding from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to be shared by the town of Hammonton and Ocean City for their respective municipal airports.
“As we know, investing in our nation’s transportation infrastructure is a proven way to create jobs and grow our economy. This federal funding heading to Hammonton and Ocean City will be critical to the long-term economic growth of our region,” said LoBiondo. “In continuing public-private partnership with local projects, this federal grant will go a long way to improve safety at the facilities for residents and visitors to South Jersey.”
The federal funding awarded by the FAA includes:
* $881,780 to the town of Hammonton to rehabilitate the runway to ensure safe airfield operations at the Hammonton Municipal Airport.
* $433,977 to the city of Ocean City to install airfield guidance signs, Precision Approach Path indicators and to rehabilitate the runway lighting at the Ocean City Municipal Airport; and,
“We take great pride in maintaining and operating a thriving municipal airport, a rarity for a barrier island resort. It is an amenity that sets us apart from many other destinations, and serves both our residents and guests very well,” said Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian. “We appreciate the opportunity this funding provides for us to improve the safety and appearance of our facility. As always, we also sincerely appreciate the outstanding support we receive from Congressman LoBiondo in securing funding such as this.”
The federal funding is awarded from the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program. Eligible projects include those improvements related to enhancing airport safety, capacity, security, and environmental concerns. Any professional services that are necessary for eligible projects — such as planning, surveying, and design — are eligible as is runway, taxiway, and apron pavement maintenance. Aviation demand at the airport must justify the projects, which must also meet Federal environmental and procurement requirements.
