OCEAN CITY – Ocean City is trying to find new ways to get its marketing efforts to a new generation of potential visitors. That’s likely to extend to online outlets, including online video platforms like Hulu and YouTube.
At City Council’s March 8 meeting, Councilwoman Karen Bergman reported on a meeting of the Ocean City Tourism Commission that morning, at which Rick Jones from Universal Media talked about the new outlet for commercials promoting the beach resort.
“It’s a lot different from when I was on it (Tourism Commission) 10 years ago, because there’s a lot of different ways to approach marketing,” she said. “Every year there’s a new way to get the attention of the public.”
Fewer people under 40 watch television regularly, turning instead to streaming devices. If Ocean City is to reach the next generation of vacationers, it has to find new outlets for its message, Bergman said.
