Nurses Authorized for Death Pronouncements

CREST HAVEN – Because the state Medical Examiner will not make death pronouncements for unattended deaths, freeholders, Aug. 9, authorized payment for eight licensed registered nurses to perform the service. 
According to the resolution, the County Prosecutor’s Office agreed to provide those services through a program known as “CMC Death Pronouncement Program” to be staffed by affiliated personnel.
They are Lisa Gault, Vanessa Landis, Jodie Schweibenz, Nancy Lang, Lynne Rybicki, Marie Marucci, Mary Tighe and Jennie Lavan.
The one-year agreement, which began June 1, will pay $125 per response and pronouncement and $75 per same response when no pronouncement is made.
In other business the board:
Formalized a resolution with Middle Township to use the county Animal Shelter for five years. The municipality had withheld approval as it sought less costly ways to provide the state-required service.
Lower Township’s public safety answering, dispatch, and related services will be assumed by the county as of Sept. 1 until Sept. 30, 2021, according to a resolution passed Aug. 9. It notes that the municipality has “determined that, for reasons of efficiency and economy, eliminating the provision” of call answering “is prudent and fiscally sound.”
The township passed a resolution agreeing to this Aug. 1.
As expected, the board passed the resolution that a front-page story centered on Aug. 10 supporting Assembly bill A-1821 to help fund 911 services that are paid by cell phone and landline phone users.
Also, in a similar case, the board supported Senate Bill S2369 to limit the application of Department of Environmental Protection rules concerning shellfish habitat for certain dredging activities.
Awarded open-end contracts to Holy Redeemer Home Care-NJ Shore and Heartland Hospice LLC to provide hospice service for Crest Haven Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center from Aug. 10 through Aug. 9, 2017, with two additional one-year options.
Passed a resolution opposing seismic air-gun testing off the state’s coast. The devices are used to seek oil and gas deposits.
Awarded an open-end contract to Sassafras Design LLC to provide design services for the Department of Tourism from Aug. 9, 2016, to Aug. 8, 2019, with two one-year options.
Authorized a change order for $24,486 to Fabbri Builders Inc. for re-bid of the modular building for the county Spay and Neuter Clinic. The resolution covers additional utility connection services and expenses.
Closed the contract with Garrison Architects of Bala Cynwyd, Pa. for design work on library branches in Stone Harbor and Sea Isle City with a final payment of $62,373.
Agreed to terminate the second of two 20-year leases on its expiration with Mid-East Marine and Industrial Corp, in Building 98 at the county airport.
