North Wildwood Starts Ball Rolling on Eventual Police Administration Positions

By Deborah McGuire

NORTH WILDWOOD — An ordinance amending the established offices of the city’s police department was passed after its second reading and public hearing during the March 6 City Council meeting.
The ordinance calls for the police department’s permanent full time staff to be comprised of no more than one chief of police, one deputy chief, two captains, two lieutenants, eight sergeants, one detective sergeant, and 20 patrolmen.
“As you know, the plan is to go to a chief, a captain and a lieutenant eventually,” said Councilperson Patrick Rosenello.
The city’s plan to restructure the department will come to fruition with the retirement of its current Chief of Police, Robert Matteucci as well as Capt. Robert Caruso.
“Bob Caruso has submitted his retirement papers,” said Rosenello. “Bob’s last working day is April 9.”
Matteucci plans to retire sometime next year.
“The plan right now, is to have temporarily, two lieutenants and one of them would be promoted to Bob Caruso’s captain’s position once the chief moves on. We will, by this time next year, get to our chief, captain, lieutenant structure,” said Rosenello. “But to get there, we have a temporary situation where we are going to have two lieutenants.
