NORTH WILDWOOD ─ In a meeting free of debate concerning the Anglesea question, North Wildwood City Council members and residents met the morning of Sept. 20 to address agenda items.
Mayor Patrick Rosenello also gave updates on various ongoing construction projects in the city and later announced that the “Name the Seawall Contest” will unveil the new name of the seawall during Irish Festival.
“It’s the 10th anniversary of the seawall as we know it,” said Rosenello.
After approving and filing communications, Rosenello presented one appointment to council for the Recreational Department.
Peter Greenland was unanimously approved by the council and will serve as a seasonal employee in Recreation.
Four resolutions also came before the council. Advertisement for a “new ambulance chassis” was put for bid as well as authorizing advertisement of requests for proposals concerning the 2016 professional services contracts.
City Administrator Kevin Yecco asked Council President Salvatore Zampirri for a resolution to be placed “on hold” due to various reasons. That resolution would authorize the agreement with Middle Township for “Road Striping Services.”
Two miles of road are involved in the project and staffing concerns comprised Yecco’s desire to “table” the resolution until all is resolved. Zampirri and council agreed, and the resolution was tabled.
During comments, Councilman Joseph Rullo remarked on the recent “nice new events in North Wildwood” and Councilman Edwin Koehler wished everyone a “happy and safe Irish Fall Festival.” That event will be held Sept. 23-25.
Rosenello gave an update on the ongoing South Jersey Gas project in the city. According to him, the project is finalizing the installation of high-pressure lines. Rosenello explained that the high pressure would help keep water out of the lines during times of flooding. He described the project as a “major improvement” for North Wildwood.
Construction on Eighth Avenue will begin after Irish Festival, according to Rosenello.
With plans to install water lines for showers at locations along Surf Avenue in 2017, North Wildwood continues to improve amenities for the public.
After the meeting, Rosenello told the Herald that a name had been chosen for the seawall from the essays and suggestions given by residents. The name will be revealed Sept. 24 at Chestnut and Old New Jersey avenues.
