North Wildwood Lands $3.65 Million Federal Wastewater Grant

By Herald Staff

GOVERNOR’S OFFICE PRESS RELEASE:
NORTH WILDWOOD — Gov. Jon S. Corzine welcomed the approval Tuesday, Aug. 25 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture of $3.65 million in funding to the City of North Wildwood under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). The funds will be used for sewage and wastewater improvement projects throughout the city.
New Jersey is one of 27 states to be awarded ARRA funding today for water and environmental improvement projects. The ARRA funds will help states implement projects that provide safe drinking water and improved wastewater treatment in rural communities.
The awarded funds will be administered by USDA Rural Development’s Water and Environmental Program, which provides loans and grants to ensure that the necessary investments are made in water and wastewater infrastructure, and to protect the environment in rural areas across the country.
The City of North Wildwood will make rehabilitation improvements to its existing sanitary sewer system. The improvements will consist of construction and replacement of an 8”sanitary main, manholes, and sanitary sewer laterals. The upgrades are necessary due to the deteriorating conditions within the sewer piping and manholes that frequently cause the disruption of traffic patterns during emergency repairs and possible soil contamination, which can compromise public health and safety.
