No Rate Increase for Wildwood Water Users

By Press Release

WILDWOOD – In a joint effort with the Board of Commissioners to abate the cost of living on the island, Wildwood Water Utility has verified that their 16,500 customers will see no rate increase for 2010. Rates will remain constant at $2.36 per 1,000 gallons when less than 50,000 gallons are used, and $2.98 per 1,000 gallons when 50,000 gallons or more are used.
These rates are among the lowest in the State of New Jersey. Even New Jersey American Water Company, the largest water utility in New Jersey serving 2.5 million customers, has requested a 14% increase in rates.
And while an average New Jersey American customer currently pays $591.00 per year, a Wildwood Water customer pays $198.24.
“All of the 25 Utility employees should be proud of the job they have done in the past year,” Mayor DeMarzo commented. “The efficiency and affordability of the Water Utility is attributable to collaboration amongst management and the rank and file.”
“Savings of this sort would have been impossible without the Water Utility and employees’ assistance in reducing expenses,” Commissioner Harshaw added.
The Wildwood Water Utility serves residents in Wildwood, North Wildwood, Wildwood Crest, West Wildwood and portions of Middle and Lower Townships.
Sewer rates have also been kept constant for 2010, at $3 per thousand gallons annually with an additional fee of $19.84 per thousand gallons in the third quarter (between the months of June and September).
