No Hawking, Only Regulated Peddling

By Vince Conti

AVALON – The Avalon Borough Council session March 28 heard a report on draft changes to the borough code regarding hawking and peddling.
Avalon has long had restrictions on street peddling, limiting it to licensed ice cream vendors who may drive the borough streets at specific times selling only ice cream, water, and soda. Those restrictions continue.
The changes eliminate any hawking from the borough, defined as someone who proclaims aloud the availability of their goods on the streets.
The other change contemplated is a codification of the requirement that anyone vending on the streets to minors must have a criminal background check before operating in Avalon. This was already occurring but will be specified in the ordinance.
