NJDOT to Improve Route 50-Sunset Drive Intersection in Upper Township

By Herald Staff

TRENTON — New Jersey Department of Transportation will improve the intersection of Route 50 and Sunset Drive in Upper Township, according to Commissioner Kris Kolluri in a Sept. 4 release.
The project will reduce congestion and increase safety.
“NJDOT’s Upper Township project will increase safety at the intersection of Route 50 and Sunset Drive and will improve public access to the municipal park,” said Gov. Jon S. Corzine.
NJDOT’s $335,325 project will add a new left-turn lane from Route 50 northbound to Sunset Drive, realign the intersection, and reconstruct the shoulders.
NJDOT will also improve sight distance, replace the median barrier, and install a new driveway to the township park, Amanda Field.
Starting Sept. 8, Route 50 traffic will shift to the northbound shoulder in order to create a work zone on the western side of the project.
NJDOT will maintain all lanes of traffic and access to residential and commercial properties during construction. The project is scheduled for completion in December 2008.
NJDOT installed variable message signs on Route 50 to inform motorists of any change in traffic patterns during construction. Real time travel and construction information is available online at www.njcommuter.com and www.nj511.info .
