TRENTON– With the Mega Millions jackpot rolling to $325 million for tonight’s drawing, New Jersey Lottery Acting Executive Director William T. Jourdain had some advice for procrastinators who planned on waiting until the last minute to buy their tickets.
“Buy your tickets early,” advised Acting Executive Director Jourdain, “This $325 million jackpot is the third largest that we’ve ever seen for Mega Millions. We’ve already had over one-and-a-half million winners of prizes anywhere from $2 to $250,000 here in New Jersey—including six $250,000 winners on last Friday’s drawing and three winners of $250,000 in our most recent drawing—so we’re certain that our retailers will be very busy today and tomorrow.”
Jourdain also commented on the impact this giant jackpot, which started rolling on July 10, 2009, is having on the State of New Jersey and its economy, saying, “With over $60 million in sales in New Jersey alone, we’ve been able to generate an estimated $25.3 million to benefit education and institutions. Likewise, our retailers—everything from small ‘Mom & Pop’ businesses to large corporate chain stores—have shared in over $3 million in commissions since this roll began on July 10th. That’s money that can be used to grow their business or be put back in the local economy. That’s all part of the ripple effect that this game has on our State.”
Speaking further about the significance of this extremely high jackpot, Jourdain also noted that:
– New Jersey’s percentage of total group sales for this jackpot Mega Millions roll — 11.8%
– New Jersey’s Second Prize $250,000 winners for this jackpot Mega Millions roll – 27
– New Jersey’s Third Prize $10,000 winners for this jackpot Mega Millions roll – 86
– Total Amount of Prizes Won by New Jerseyans – $13,866,439
“As I said earlier, get your tickets early and avoid what are sure to be some long lines later tonight and throughout the day tomorrow,” said Acting Executive Director Jourdain, “You don’t want to miss out on this opportunity to give your dreams a chance!”
The Mega Millions jackpot will be $325,000,000 for the next drawing, which will be held on Friday, August 28 at 11:00 pm on NJN-TV – the New Jersey Network.
