COURT HOUSE – At the Middle Township Committee meeting July 17, Mayor Michael Clark responded to a question from the public by describing new businesses that will be occupying empty retail spaces.
Clark said that Planet Fitness would open a fitness center in the space formerly occupied by the J.C. Penny department store in Rio Grande.
According to Clark, the former Kmart store, also in Rio Grande, may house a Tractor Supply store. The company is a leading provider of materials for home improvement, agriculture, lawn and garden maintenance, and livestock and pet care products.
Tractor Supply would not occupy the entire retail space formerly used by Kmart. Clark added that the State of New Jersey was looking at the remaining space as a location for offices. Any interest by the state would require a zoning variance for alternative use of the currently zoned retail space.
Lastly, Clark indicated that individuals seeking to satisfy their cravings for ice cream may only have a short wait before a gourmet ice cream store opens at the site vacated by the 7-Eleven chain in Court House.
