CAPE MAY – At Cape May City Council’s Dec. 5 meeting, Purchasing Agent Daniel Shustack gave a brief preview of the work underway to redesign the city’s website to provide a more interactive, user-friendly experience.
Part of that effort, Shustack said, was the design of a proposed logo for the city that would be a centerpiece of the new website.
“The city has never really had a logo,” Shustack added. “We have always gotten along using the city seal in place of a logo.”
Shustack was quick to note that the city seal is not changing. “That is our seal and will remain our seal,” he said.
Mayor Clarence Lear, standing near an easel, then reversed the display on the easel showing an artist rendition of the proposed new logo.
The city had about seven designs from which to choose, Shustack said. The designs came as part of a bid process.
The logo design selected incorporated “what you think of when you think of Cape May,” said Shustack.
The logo makes clear the city’s designation as a national historic landmark, while it also emphasizes the city status as the nation’s oldest seashore resort.
Pictured in the logo are the iconic Victorian architecture for which the city is famous and the Cape May Lighthouse at Cape May Point State Park.
The logo also pays tribute to the longtime relationship between the city and the Coast Guard.
This presentation was meant as an early indication of the work Shustack said is aimed at a “new branded image” for the city.
