WILDWOOD – City Commissioners must find an alternative source of funding for the Boardwalk since Gov. Phil Murphy’s veto Aug. 23. According to media sources, Murphy declared the bill “unconstitutional and unenforceable.”
Money, $60 million, would have gone to the city over a period of 15 years; $4 million a year would have gone to the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority (GWITDA).
Since 2018, Mayor Ernie Troiano has emphasized the importance of repairing the boards. According to Troiano, Wildwood generates “billions” of tax money for Trenton. The mayor said he is “very disappointed” with Murphy’s veto.
