MUA Quells Director Resignation Rumors

By Jack Fichter

VILLAS – Lower Township Municipal Utilities Authority Board of Commissioners called a special meeting on a Friday evening where following a lengthy closed session, they announced rumors of Executive Director Michael DeMarcantonio’s resignation were false
The Herald had received phone calls from two sources close to the MUA that DeMarcantonio had submitted a resignation effective in June at a previous meeting following a two and half hour closed session meeting. MUA Board Secretary Emily Oblerkoffler told the Herald before the meeting, no resignation had been submitted at that meeting.
Following a closed session at the March 20 meeting, Commission Chairman Nels Johnson said there were rumors and innuendo that the executive director was “resigning or leaving which couldn’t be further from the truth.”
“And we are happy to report with full board approval and cooperation, we are very much in Mike’s camp, that he is staying as acting director until he sees fit to leave this organization,” said Johnson.
“We are very happy and pleased that we’re going to move along to do the best we can for the ratepayers of Lower Township to get water, sewer and new infrastructure and better efficiencies at the plant,” he continued.
Johnson referred twice to DeMarcantonio as “acting director,” which normally refers to a temporary position.
Johnson said no questions would be taken by the board and the meeting was adjourned.
