CAPE MAY – Cape May City Council introduced two changes Feb. 5 to regulations governing weddings officiated by the mayor or deputy mayor. The most significant change means couples better be sure about the date.
A change to the ordinance governing weddings and civil unions would raise the fee for having the mayor or deputy mayor officiate at a wedding from $300 to $325. The fee remains non-refundable when a wedding is canceled.
Postponements are currently allowed in the ordinance as long as the city received notification 14 days in advance. That portion of the ordinance has been altered in the newly-introduced amendment to require 60 days’ notice before the scheduled ceremony date.
