STONE HARBOR – A portion of the Stone Harbor Borough Council meeting April 16 went to the dogs, and man’s best friend may have gained more than they lost.
An ordinance adopted at the meeting gave dogs and their owners greater freedom of movement on municipal beaches from 80th to 122nd Streets.
The regulations allow on-leash animals on the beaches at any time from the day after Labor Day to the Thursday before Memorial Day. During the season, from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day, leashed animals will be allowed on the beaches from 7 p.m. to sunset.
The ordinance specifically banned dogs and other animals south of 127th Street which is the demarcation line for the Stone Harbor Point Conservation Management District.
A second ordinance introduced at the meeting stated that dogs, even on a leash, are not permitted in the Conservation Management District at any time.
