COURT HOUSE – Middle Township continued its attack on vacant and abandoned properties at the final governing body meeting of the year Dec. 17. A resolution made changes to the township code that will tighten basic property maintenance standards. The result will be more consistent and defensible enforcement of violations, officials said.
The township has attacked the problem of vacant and abandoned properties since it is a public safety hazard and blight that impacts surrounding property values. Dealing with abandoned properties, however, is an issue fraught with legal complications. A more uniform and consistent municipal code will be of benefit to those charged with enforcement.
