COURT HOUSE – Middle Township Committee authorized the sale of the township’s sixth plenary liquor license June 17, asking a minimum bid of $750,000.
The price was set based on the last public sale of such a license, which was over 20 years ago. Township officials also expressed concern with protecting the value of the existing licenses.
No qualifying bids were received by the Aug. 21 deadline. Committee reissued a call for public bids Sept. 16. The minimum bid was set at $600,000, 20% less than the level set in June.
The deadline for submission of a sealed bid is Nov. 20.
Committee member Michael Clark voted against the resolution. He said that he feels the license is worth the $750,000 originally sought.
He said there should be no rush to sell the license. He favored “putting it on the shelf” and protecting its value for a future sale.
