COURT HOUSE — Christmas in Middle Township, presented by the Middle Township Chamber of Commerce and Middle Township Recreation Department drew a large crowd to downtown on Fri., Dec. 3.
The crowd waited with great anticipation for the arrival of Santa on a Court House fire truck.
Prior to his arrival, a number of local organizations presented floats or walking units. The Middle Township Panther Marching Band performed before a large gathering outside the Bellevue Tavern, where large light-produced snowflake shapes were projected on the street.
Santa had a bit of trouble lighting the municipal Christmas tree. It took several countdowns by the anxious crowd, especially the children, who were in awe once the connections were made by Santa himself.
Once the tree was lit, Santa headed west on Mechanic Street with a crowd of youngsters flocking around him as they walked toward the Court House Firehouse where Santa heard the wishes of good girls and boys.
Along the way, Middle Township Chamber of Commerce provided cookies and hot cocoa. The County Library provided puppet shows, snacks, and, much appreciated, heat for cold parade goers.
Other displays included Wetlands Institute, Concerned Citizens of Whitesboro, Inc. and several others.
Also on the second floor of the firehouse was this year’s Tree of Life display, where, at 8:30 p.m. an auction was held to sell the brightly decorated trees, which had been done by local groups and businesses.
Proceeds from that auction benefited Holy Redeemer Hospice, Coalition Against Rape and Abuse, Cape Assist and United Way of Cape May County.
Trolleys linked the main business are with the County Historical Museum, Crow Creek Studio, and Cape Bank North, next to McDonald’s.
