COURT HOUSE – Thousands flocked to the heart of Court House Oct. 26 to visit the 23rd Annual Olde Thyme Harvest Fest. Regardless, a review of vendor policies will be undertaken as a result of some complaints.
According to a township release, on a sunny, fall day visitors browsed the many vendors, children enjoyed the rides and bouncy houses and the food court offered a wide range of delicious options, complemented by live music.
Comments on the event were overwhelming positive. However, the township received a handful of complaints about a few vendors selling overtly political merchandise and items that made some folks feel uncomfortable or less safe.
This is not acceptable. In the township’s followup to this year’s event, the municipality will be reviewing its vendor application and policies, with the intention to ban the sale of all political merchandise.
While officials respect freedom of speech and welcome a diversity of opinions, they reserve the right to only approve vendors that operate within the spirit of the event.
The Harvest Fest is meant to be a celebration of all that is good about the township. The focus is meant to be on local vendors’ wares and civic organizations promoting worthy causes for the greater good.
First and foremost, the focus must be on making the event as family-friendly as possible and ensuring that all feel welcome and safe in the setting.
Middle Township will be setting up a tab on the township’s website for residents and visitors to share their vision for the future of the Harvest Fest.
Any proposed changes to policies and procedures will be scheduled for a review and public comment at an upcoming township committee work session.
