Middle Township Remembers Auditor Ortman

By Helen McCaffrey

COURT HOUSE – The Sept. 3 Middle Township Committee meeting lasted less than 20 minutes, the shortest of the year.
A somber pale permeated the proceedings due to the death of long-time township Auditor Glen Ortman, who died Aug. 28 at age 55.
Every member of committee, Mayor Timothy Donohue, Deputy Mayor Daniel Lockwood and Committeeman Michael Clark, all heaped praise upon Ortman and offered deepest sympathy to his family.
The rest of the meeting included such routine items as paying bills and passing an ordinance to allow the $400,000 remaining from Stage 4 of the bike path to be used for the start of Stage 5.
The next meeting will be held Sept. 15 and it will be take place in Rio Grande instead of the regular Mechanic Street venue. This follows a practice begun three years ago; it is an attempt to bring more residents to meetings.
