Middle Township Provides Tax Levy Details To Residents

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE — Included with every tax bill distributed this month within Middle Township is an informational graphic detailing exactly how residents’ tax dollars are allocated. The pie chart illustrates that of the taxes collected by the Township, approximately 54% is remitted to the Board of Education, 14% goes to the County of Cape May, and 6% is used to fund the local fire districts. Less than 26% of locally raised tax dollars goes towards the cost of funding Middle Township’s municipal services, including police; road construction; 24-hour paid 1st responder ambulance service; trash, recycling, bulk item removal, and leaf and brush pickup and disposal; emergency management; 911 emergency dispatch; snow removal; recreation and parks; juvenile officer program; code enforcement and animal control. The tax levy has remained below the all-time high of 2011 for three consecutive years.
“Middle Township wants to ensure the distribution of 2014 tax dollars is as transparent as possible,” said Middle Township Mayor Tim Donohue. “Property owners will clearly and easily see how their tax dollars are used to provide essential services in our township. The township continues to take many proactive steps in order to save money going forward and to spend taxpayer dollars wisely and reluctantly.”
The Middle Township Tax Collector’s Office will have all new tax bills in the mail by July 17. The bill will include the next four quarters, with the 2014 3rd quarter tax bill due by Aug. 1. Property owners can remit payment via mail or pay in person at the Tax Collector’s Office, located on the first floor of the Middle Township municipal building. Property owners also have the added option of paying their tax bills online at www.middletownship.com.
