Middle Township Graduation Likely to Stay in Memorial Field

By Al Campbell

COURT HOUSE — Near the close of a special Middle Township Board of Education meeting Oct. 5, there was discussion concerning graduation, according to minutes of that meeting.
Board member Andrew Melchiorre stated he was in full support of moving graduation to the Wildwood Convention Center, but was aware that the public does not agree with his suggestion, so he will support leaving it where it is.
Board Vice President Dennis Roberts agreed, stating students love graduation at their own home field. Daniel Money suggested the possibility of moving graduation to the Performing Arts Center for inclement weather. George DeLollis supported moving it to the gym and having police presence to handle the crowd.
Anthony Anzelone suggested portable bleachers for the elderly if the gym is the contingent plan. Burgess Hamer stated he did not believe the PAC is large enough for everyone and declared the last time graduation was held at the PAC there were issues.
Superintendent Michael Kopakowski was asked to investigate the possibility of obtaining temporary staging to allow for more capacity in the gym.
