COURT HOUSE – Middle Township was recognized for its ambitious safety program that educates and protects Township employees in the workplace. The recognition was provided during the Atlantic County Municipal Joint Insurance Fund’s 25th Annual Safety Incentive Program Kickoff Breakfast held Feb. 20. Middle Township was awarded a plaque for achieving Safety Excellence in 2013; in addition, the Township earns a $1,500 award due to its proactive safety program.
In order for a community to receive awards and financial incentives, Middle Township must strictly adhere to the MEL Employment Practices Risk control update checklist to stay within the regulations of the Atlantic County Municipal Joint Insurance Fund. Compliance requires the efforts and cooperation of all Township employees working together in the municipality.
“This is an outstanding achievement for Middle Township thanks to the hard work and dedication of all of our Township employees”, said Middle Township Mayor Tim Donohue. “The Township takes all safety matters in the workplace very seriously, and this award by the Atlantic County Municipal JIF recognizes the Township for a job very well done”.
Middle Township has a safety committee comprised of more than a dozen employees who meet monthly to address various safety issues in the workplace, and around the Township. The committee discusses accidents and how they can be avoided in the future and selects training opportunities that keep the workplace a safe environment in Middle Township.
Middle Township is among hundreds of municipalities throughout the State of New Jersey who have decided to improve insurance coverage and safety education while greatly reducing costs by securing insurance protection through one of 18 Joint Insurance Funds. Title 40:A 10-6 allows local communities to pool their resources and achieve economies of scale and other advantages previously available only to large corporations or very large cities. JIF’s allow member municipalities like Middle Township to lower the ultimate cost of their fire, liability, automobile, and workers’ compensation insurance coverage. Middle Township has been a member of the ACMJIF since 1992.
The Atlantic County Municipal Joint Insurance Fund was formed 27 years ago originally to serve seven charter municipalities. Middle Township is among 41 current members of the ACMJIF.
