COURT HOUSE — Mayor F. Nathan Doughty is pleased to announce that this fall Middle Township will apply for a $200,000 state grant to help income qualified homeowners improve their homes. If approved new rehabilitation funds will be available in March 2009.
According to a press release, the township is accepting new applications from homeowners who would like to be placed on the waiting list for assistance. Applications are available from the township Economic Development Office at 465-8731.
The home rehabilitation program provides assistance up to $25,000 to help with home repairs including windows, roofs, floors, heating systems, insulation, woodwork, plumbing and related work needed to remedy serious home deficiencies.
Rehabilitation assistance is only paid back when the homeowner sells the home.
Assistance is limited to homeowners who had 2007 household incomes below the following ceilings:
• one person household, $36,700
• two-person household, $41,900
• three-person household, $47,150
• four-person household, $52,400
• five-person household, $56,600
• six-person household, $60,800
• seven-person household, $65,000
• eight-person household, $69,150
If state funds are approved, the township’s rehabilitation inspector will prepare a work list in conjunction with the homeowner.
The approved work will be bid. The township will oversee the work of the low bidder and pay for the work directly after the inspector approves the completed improvements.
Anyone interested should contact the township as soon as possible. Homeowners will be added to the waiting list in the order they are received.
