COURT HOUSE – “We are where we are,” said Mayor Timothy Donohue after he expressed his frustration with the pace of Gov. Phil Murphy’s recovery plan.
Middle Township Committee’s June 15 meeting was the sixth virtual meeting, and was held a day into, what Murphy labeled as, the start of Stage 2 of the Road Back plan.
Murphy eased COVID-19 induced restrictions to allow restaurants to engage in outside dining, in addition to the takeout business they existed off of for the three months since the governor closed, what he called, non-essential businesses in March.
Murphy also permitted in-store retail to begin, with capacity and social distancing restrictions.
A resolution adopted by the committee permitted municipal retail businesses to display merchandise outside their stores, during the period of COVID-19 restrictions. It also established increased flexibility for outdoor dining and set the rules for consumption of alcohol associated with such dining.
Donohue said the municipality is doing what it can. The mayor lauded municipal employees who worked hard to get the required site plans in shape for zoning officer approval.
Donohue said he saw several dining establishments with customers at the outdoor tables. He invited the public to join him in supporting local businesses. “I’m going over as soon as this meeting is over,” he added.
Cape May – Governor Murphy says he doesn't know anything about the drones and doesn't know what they are doing but he does know that they are not dangerous. Does anyone feel better now?
