COURT HOUSE — Three Middle Township public works superintendents were memorialized Sat., June 16 with plaques bearing their names and a tree planted just steps from the annex where they worked
Families of David D. “Dave” Webb, Robert A. Hodges Sr. and Richard F. “Rick” Ceglarski gathered for the “Dedication of Honor” as Bonnie Millard, a municipal employee who knew all three, told their loved ones the special place that they had earned among the township’s residents.
As white clouds drifted overhead and the newly-planted tree swayed in the breeze, Mayor Daniel Lockwood, Deputy Mayor Timothy Donohue, Committeewoman Susan DeLanzo and former mayor F. Nathan Doughty spoke of what the superintendents had done for the municipality, from overseeing clearing of downed trees on roadways to having drainage ditches reopened.
Doughty spoke of the township’s 130 miles of roads, which each of the superintendents knew well, whether storms brought trees down on them, if they were snow covered or if rain waters deluged them.
He recalled each of them, and reckoned many nights when the telephone rang at odd hours due to something that needed clearing or help needed from one of the three.
Millard presented each family with a printed record of the dedication.
Bishop Edgar Robinson of Christ Gospel Church closed the service with a blessing on the families of each man and for those who continue to serve Middle Township’s residents.
