COURT HOUSE — Mayor Susan Atkinson DeLanzo is pleased to announce that Middle Township applied for a $200,000 NJ Department of Community Affairs state grant to help income qualified homeowners improve their homes.
This is a very popular program and the township is accepting new applications from homeowners who would like to be placed on the waiting list for assistance. Applications are available from Jill Zarharchuck in the township’s Economic Development Office at (609) 465-8731.
The home rehabilitation program provides assistance up to $25,000 to help with home repairs including windows, roofs, floors, heating systems, insulation, woodwork, plumbing and related work needed to remedy serious home deficiencies.
Rehabilitation assistance is only paid back when the homeowner sells the home or refinances and outgrows the program. Assistance is limited to homeowners who had 2009 household incomes below the following ceilings.
1 person household $37,650
2 person household $43,000
3 person household $48,400
4 person household $53,750
5 person household $58,050
6 person household $62,350
7 person household $66,650
8 person household $70,950
If state funds are approved middle township’s rehabilitation inspector will prepare a work list in conjunction with the homeowner. The approved work will be bid. The township will oversee the work of the low bidder and pay for the work directly after the inspector approves the completed improvements.
“i am very pleased that we can offer programs such as the housing rehabilitation program to help our residents. Our housing rehab program has helped a lot of people and it is a worthy program to help maintain the value of our homes in middle township”, stated DeLanzo.
