COURT HOUSE – Middle Township continues to be active in its exploration of potential development. Township Committee began the process when it requested that the planning board study the potential benefits of designating specific rehabilitation or redevelopment zones in several areas of the municipality. On Dec. 4, the committee added to its request to the board that it consider a potential zone encompassing a large parcel of land in Burleigh.
Development of the area is complicated by a series of small, undersized lots dating from the 1930s sold through classified ads and commonly called “newspaper lots.” If such a redevelopment designation is applied, the township must still go through the process of gaining title to the lots through either foreclosure or condemnation, a process that must be preceded by all possible efforts to identify and locate present owners of the properties.
