Menendez, Booker Announce $7M to Elevate Structures in Cape May County

By Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker announced $7,467,937.26 in federal funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to assist in elevating 38 structures in the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) in Cape May County.
“This federal funding will allow for the elevation of flood-prone structures along the Jersey Coast, which will make them stronger and more resilient from future natural disasters,” said Sen. Menendez. “The state’s shore communities are vulnerable during severe weather storms and I will continue to fight for resources to make sure they are prepared for the next storm. Through sensible mitigation efforts, like elevation, we can save lives, protect families, protect commercial structures and safeguard entire communities.”
“The elevation of flood-prone homes is an important part of New Jersey’s longterm resiliency efforts,” said Sen. Booker. “Devastation from natural disasters like Hurricane Sandy underscore the importance of ensuring our families are out of harm’s way. This federal investment in the strength of New Jersey communities will help mitigate against future disasters and save lives.”
The structures will be elevated to at least two-feet above the Base Flood Elevation (BFE) and will be designed and constructed in accordance with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) standards.
