WEST WILDWOOD – The Nov. 4 meeting of the West Wildwood Board of Commissioners featured news regarding the borough’s Best Practices inventory that the state uses to award grant money for municipalities. Commissioner Cornelius Maxwell announced that the report to the state produced a perfect score for West Wildwood. That qualifies the borough for 100 percent of available state grant money.
This improved score over last year’s will also have a positive effect on the borough’s bond rating.
In other grant news, the borough received a $981 N.J. Division of Criminal Justice grant to assist in the purchase of body armor for its police department.
Mayor Christopher Fox expressed frustration over a Herald “Spout Off” from a resident that claimed that the turnover of police who leave for other jurisdictions from West Wildwood was costing the borough money because those officers were trained with borough funds.
Fox stated, “There is a state statute that addresses the issue of training costs.”
Fox related that if any officer is trained by a municipality, then moves to another agency; then the hiring agency must compensate the initial agency for those training costs.
The borough also announced that Danielle Aydelotte had been appointed to the position of volunteer deputy emergency management coordinator for the borough.
Fox also announced that the annual tree lighting ceremony would take place Dec. 1 at 6 p.m.
