Mayor Gene Glembocki issued the following statement regarding rumors being spread around Dennis Township about possible Recreation Department layoffs:
While we don’t typically respond to rumors, since these rumors were being spread by former members of the Township Committee, among others, I thought it was appropriate to set the record straight. There is no plan to layoff members of the Recreation Department staff. There is no plan to cut any recreation programs. Given the horrible financial condition that we found the Township in when I took over as Mayor in 2012, every department has had to do more with less. There were layoffs that were very unfortunate, but the financial policies of prior years left us with no choice. However, there was never any intention to lay off Rec staff or cut Rec programs. Our Recreation Department is the pride of our Township and provides some of the greatest services we have. The Rec staff has done a great job with limited resources and our Rec parents and volunteers have be invaluable in helping us keep our Recreation Department intact. We are doing everything we can to improve communication between the Rec staff and Township Committee, but nothing excuses the irresponsible rumors and personal attacks that grew out of the mistaken belief that Rec layoffs were coming. Let me make this clear, there was never any plan to layoff any members of the Recreation staff. Not this year. Not next year. In my opinion, these were politically motivated rumors by petty people who want to undermine the current Township Committee. So be it, but rest assured we will be making our decisions based on what is in the best interests of the Township, not based on political or personal agendas. Our Recreation Department will continue to be fully supported by the majority on Township Committee and our children in Dennis Township will continue to have the best recreation and sports choices in the County as long as I am Mayor of Dennis Township.
