CAPE MAY – City Manager Neil Young presented his 2019 budget to City Council Feb. 19. The $30.9 million budget calls for a just under one cent increase in the local purpose tax levy. If adopted the tax rate would move from $0.3500 to $0.3588 per $100 of assessed value.
The current fund budget as presented was $19.8 million. Three utilities make up the rest of the budget with the Water and Sewer Utility at $7.1 million, the Beach Utility at $2.8 million and the Tourism Utility at $1.3 million. All four components of the budget represent increases over 2018.
The city manager’s budget marks the beginning of the budget setting process. Council will consider the budget proposal and make any changes before introducing the budget at a future council meeting. Last year, council increased the city manager’s proposed budget.
