NORTH CAPE MAY — Lower Township Police Chief, William Mastriana recently announced that the Lower Township Police Department will once again be participating in Operation Take Back New Jersey, whereby residents can turn in any unwanted or expired prescription medicines or drugs to their local police departments.
The event will be held on Oct. 26, 2013 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Lower Township residents and visitors can turn over any unwanted or expired prescription medication they may have in their medicine cabinets.
This year to make things convenient to the public, the Lower Township Police Department along with the assistance of Tom Tower property owner of Breakwater Plaza will establish a drive-thru prescription drop off. The drop off container will be located in the parking lot of Breakwater Plaza, where a drive thru manned by Lower Township Police Officers will be established. The public will be able to drive up to the container and dispose of their unwanted medication and prescription without exiting their vehicle. Breakwater Plaza is located at the intersection of Bayshore Rd and Breakwater Rd in North Cape May, NJ.
The program is anonymous and individuals disposing of medications will not be required to produce identification. Residents may dispose of medication either in its original container or by removing medication from its container and disposing it directly into the drug disposal box. If the original container is submitted, residents are encouraged to remove the prescription label if it contains any personal identifying information. Liquid products, such as cough medicines, should remain sealed in their original containers. Syringes and other sharp instruments will not be accepted.
The event is sponsored by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police, the Drug Enforcement Administration and The State Attorney General’s Office in cooperation with the New Jersey National Guard.
Lower Township Police Department also participates in Project Medicine Drop. Members of the public are invited to deposit their unused or expired household pharmaceutical waste into the Project Medicine Drop box, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, in the main lobby of the Lower Township Public Safety Building located in the Cape May County Airport Complex off of Breakwater Road in the township’s Erma Section.
