Lower Twp Councilman Requests Township Fees Be Waived For Disabled Vets

By Press Release

VILLAS — An ordinance that will exempt disabled veterans from all Township fees associated with construction of improvements to facilitate mobility to their residences was introduced by Lower Township Councilman Thomas Conrad at the July 7, 2014 Council meeting.
The proposed ordinance exempts veterans with service-related disabilities or their caretakers from the entire cost of all Township fees for any construction, reconstruction, alteration or improvement done in an effort to increase the home’s accessibility. The ordinance mirrors bill A-2299, which was passed by the New Jersey Assembly in early June.
“I am always looking for ways that I can help servicemembers and their families. This is a small token of appreciation to the men and women who sacrificed themselves for our country to provide us with the freedoms we enjoy,” said Conrad, who served in the United Stated Army Reserves. He added, “I read bill A-2299 and was compelled to present it to Council immediately. I did not want to wait and see whether bill A-2299 passed the Senate, I want the disabled veterans of our township to know that I support them and that I am willing to help their transition to civilian life whenever possible.”
Lower Township Council will vote on the proposed ordinance at the July 21 meeting.
