VILLAS – The annual Lower Township Council reorganization meeting held Jan. 3 featured the swearing in of Roland Roy (R-3) to his first full elected term as councilman. His wife Melissa held the Bible, and his family watched. The meeting included a “year in review” presentation led by Township Administrator James Ridgway. He stated that the township is “on the offensive” regarding about 20 mostly infrastructure projects that have been planned. One of those projects is the Beach Drive Pedestrian Safety Project that is slated for completion before the summer.
Each councilman presented overviews on projects and initiatives in their wards, including the status of the Public Safety Building, access to the Bayshore Mall from Ferry Road, a feasibility study regarding repair or replacement of the “Two Mile Bridge,” and new speed limits on roadways in cooperation with the county. Other projects such as the youth camp, and the Police Department accreditation project were also mentioned.
