LOWER TOWNSHIP – Lower Township Police L.E.A.D. Officers Eric Coombs and Jennifer Anzelone attended the 3rd Annual 21st Century Drug & Violence Prevention Training Conference and Marijuana Symposium March 18 through the 20, 2018 hosted by Law Enforcement Against Drugs (L.E.A.D.), On the Street and in the Classroom.
The L.E.A.D. vision is to create safer, healthier communities free of drugs, bullying, and violence. Their mission is to provide the leadership, resources and management to ensure law enforcement agencies have the means to partner with our educators, community leaders, and families by providing proven and effective programs to deter youth and adults from drug use, drug related crimes, bullying and violence. L.E.A.D. is committed to reinforcing the mutual respect, goodwill and relations between law enforcement and their communities.
Officer Coombs and Anzelone attended multiple training sessions to include but not limited to:

• Too Good For Drugs and Violence High School
• Social Perspectives
• School Safety and the Law
• What a Safe School Looks Like: Major Legislation and Top Cases
• How do we use the media to reduce drug use in adolescents
• The heroin and opiate problems: where are we at and where are we going
• Understanding the issues facing Law Enforcement and Educators with the decriminalization and legalization of marijuana
Chief William Mastriana authorized the new Lower Township L.E.A.D. car to be displayed on the Harrah’s Resort Convention Center floor for the duration of the conference. Chief Mastriana is a staunch supporter of community policing and the L.E.A.D program, which is taught as part of Lower Township’s 6th grade curriculum.
