LOWER TOWNSHIP – The Lower Township Police Department recently received a donation of thirty doses of nasal naloxone from The CURE ministry of the Lighthouse Church in Burleigh and the Greg DiAntonio Memorial Foundation of Wildwood.
The Lower Township Police Department applauds the generous contributions of these two organizations.
It has been proven if Narcan is administered within the first few minutes of an opioid overdose a life can be saved. Narcan does not have adverse affects and is not addictive, it is simply a life-saving drug when given properly.
Narcan, also referred to as naloxone, has been in use in the U.S. since the early 1970s. It may be administered to an unconscious patient either through injection or by spraying the drug into the patient’s nose. When properly administered it can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose in minutes.
Opioids include prescription painkillers such as hydrocodone, oxycodone, morphine, codeine and fentanyl as well as illegal drugs such as heroin. The abuse of these drugs has become a growing national epidemic, taking the lives of thousands of people each year.
