COURT HOUSE – APRIL 17: The Cape May County Department of Health reported one new COVID-19 fatality today, a 75-year-old woman, from Lower Township. The death brings the total fatalities in the township to 10. The total for the county moves to 13.
The report noted 10 new confirmed cases, with five of those in Upper Township. There are two new cases in North Wildwood and one each in Dennis Township, Middle Township and Wildwood.
Cape May Point and Stone Harbor remain the only municipalities without a confirmed case of COVID-19 infection.
A major uptick in today’s report was in individuals who tested positive for the virus and are now off quarantine. That number moved from 17 yesterday to 45 today. Avalon now has no active cases, with all six individuals who tested positive now off quarantine. Lower and Middle townships, the two population centers hardest hit by the illness, now show a combined 15 individuals off quarantine.
While the total cases grew to a total of 200, the actual number of active cases declined for the first time.
