VILLAS — Lower Township is preparing to replace five additional stormwater outfall pipes into the bay, part of an original list of 12 pipes.
Township Manager Kathy McPherson said state Department of Environmental Protection regulations do not allow work to take place on bay beaches before Sept. 15.
Township Council introduced a capital improvements ordinance Aug. 16 that includes funding for the five outfall pipes located at Lincoln, Emerson, Beverly and Shadeland avenues and Broadway.
Seven outfall pipes have been replaced using federal stimulus money, she said.
“There wasn’t enough time to do all of it and get off the beach, so we split the project,” said McPherson.
The project is out to bid at this time, said McPherson.
Township Council approved a proposal Aug. 16 for bid specifications, bid award and construction management services for $19,500 for Hatch Mott McDonald.
The township will apply for a state public facilities grant for funding to replace outfall pipes at Wildwood, Arbor, Cloverdale, Greenwood and St. John’s avenues.
McPherson said the township also wants to replace an outfall pipe at Holmes Avenue. If the township receives state permitting by the time the five outfall pipes are replaced, it will be added to the project.
