Lower Police Chaplain Retires

ERMA — The Lower Township Police Department announced on Sunday June 27th 2010 that a long serving police chaplain was retiring. A celebration of his ministry was held at the Tabernacle United Methodist Church on Seashore Road at 10:15 a.m. on Sun., June 27.
Pastor Howard was the coordinator for the police chaplains’ program, which consists of various religious leaders through out Lower Township. The programs main purpose is to provide spiritual support to members of the police department and the public at large.
Chief Ed Donohue recalled how through the years chaplains have been invaluable in assisting Officers during death notifications as a result of motor vehicle accidents and other tragedies and how on one occasion when an officer had an on duty medical emergency that left him on a ventilator, Pastor Howard was standing vigil at the hospital to support family
members and fellow police officers.
The Police Chaplains Program was begun by Chief John Maher and expanded under Chief Ed Donohue. The program is under the supervision of Captain Brian Marker who has been active in the program since its inception.
Chief Donohue presented Pastor Howard with a plaque in appreciation for his years of service and ministry to the Lower Township Police Department and community. The members of the Lower Township Police Department wish Pastor Howard and his wife Linda a happy and long retirement.
