VILLAS – Lower Township lent its voice to a list of communities and states that oppose East Coast offshore oil and gas drilling. Lower Township Council passed a resolution Feb. 21 that recognized the risk that offshore drilling poses to the ocean environment. It noted that the $44-billion state tourism industry would suffer from even a minor spill. New Jersey has approximately 120 miles of coastline that features many forms of wildlife including endangered species. The township joined other coastal communities to oppose the possible onset of drilling.
