CAPE MAY – U.S. Rep. Frank A. LoBiondo (R-2nd) announced Aug. 22 two federal grants totaling $64,100 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s Rural Development office to be shared by Cape May City and Deerfield Township.
Cape May will receive $35,000 for the purchase and installation of a public address early warning system along 1.3 miles of beach promenade.
“USDA has been a great partner with many communities in South Jersey throughout the years on critical public infrastructure projects; today’s announcement is no exception,” stated LoBiondo in a release. “I am pleased these federal grants will allow Cape May to better prepare for emergencies while exploring options to improve the public health of those living in Carmel and Rosenhayn.”
The other federal funding award:
* $28,500 to Deerfield Township to complete a feasibility study for running sewer lines within Carmel and Rosenhayn to reduce the need for septic systems on small lots.
