WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Congressman Frank A. LoBiondo (NJ-02) was again named Chairman of the House Aviation Subcommittee by full House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster (PA-09) for the 115th Congress. This chairmanship is of particular importance due to the aviation facilities that are located in the 2nd Congressional District including the FAA Tech Center, the TSA Security Lab, the Federal Air Marshal training facility, and the Atlantic City International Airport.
As requested, LoBiondo will remain on the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee and the House Armed Services Committee.
LoBiondo is the only member from South Jersey serving on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. In addition to being named Chairman of the Aviation Subcommittee, LoBiondo’s assignments are as follows:
Subcommittee on Highways and Transit – The subcommittee has jurisdiction over the nation’s highway, transit, and highway safety programs, as well as the policy that governs how highway and transit projects are planned, approved, and constructed. Given the extensive transportation needs of South Jersey and the state, LoBiondo will focus on federal support for critical local projects.
Subcommittee on the Coast Guard & Maritime Transportation – The subcommittee which has jurisdiction over policies and issues pertaining to the U.S. Coast Guard, maritime transportation safety and security policies. This assignment is particularly critical with two major Coast Guard facilities located within the 2nd Congressional District – Air Station Atlantic City and the Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May.
LoBiondo’s subcommittee assignments on the House Armed Services Committee are as follows:
Subcommittee on Tactical Air & Land Forces – The subcommittee has jurisdiction over all Army and Air Force acquisition programs (except strategic missiles and lift programs, special operations and information technology accounts) and the associated weapons systems sustainment accounts. In addition, the subcommittee will be responsible for Navy and Marine Corps aviation programs and the associated weapons system sustainment accounts, National Guard and Army and Air Force reserve modernization, and ammunition programs. LoBiondo has been a member of the subcommittee since 2003, and retained his membership due to the jurisdiction over issues pertaining to the 177th Fighter Wing in Atlantic County.
Subcommittee on Emerging Threats & Capabilities – The subcommittee has jurisdiction over counter-terrorism programs and initiatives and counter proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. Additionally, this subcommittee oversees U.S. Special Operations Forces, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), information technology and programs, force protection policy and oversight, and related intelligence support.
LoBiondo will remain on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI). Members of the committee are appointed by the Speaker of the House and have jurisdiction over the nation’s classified intelligence agencies and programs, both domestic and foreign. The appointment was announced in December 2010.
Under HPSCI, LoBiondo will again serve as Chairman of the CIA Subcommittee which is responsible for oversight of the policies, activities, and budgets of Central Intelligence Agency programs excluding covert action.
