WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Frank A. LoBiondo (R-2nd) on Jan. 28 issued the following statement after President Bush delivered his annual State of the Union Address to the nation:
“Last week, the President rightly set the tone for how the Congress and the Administration should work together to solve the issues facing the country. In cooperation with Speaker Pelosi and Republican Leader Boehner, the President agreed upon an economic stimulus package to calm the anxiety of American families, including those in South Jersey. It is a legislative package that will be considered by the full House this week and one that I intend to support. Tonight, the President highlighted additional economic initiatives and other key domestic issues that I hope the Congress can again find bipartisan cooperation on.
“While many parts of the country are just waking up to the slowdown of the nation’s economic growth, regions such as South Jersey have long struggled and our families and seniors have long had to fight just to keep up. The President’s economic stimulus package will help working South Jersey families, but they need more. I have worked with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to provide additional federal assistance to South Jersey families, such as home heating aid, prescription drug coverage and an increase in the minimum wage. South Jersey families need more than short-term fixes; they need to be empowered to make their own fiscal choices without the burden of additional, unnecessary taxes.
“I also agree the Administration and the Congress should work together to address other critical issues, such as securing our borders, reigning in wasteful spending, and protecting the homeland. One area both parties can find strong bipartisan consensus is with providing for our servicemen and women and their families. I strongly support the President’s call to allow all eligible service members in each branch of the military the opportunity to transfer unused GI education and job training benefits to their spouses and children. I also support the expansion of hiring preferences across the federal government to military spouses. As we all know, the families of our military personnel also sacrifice so much when a family member is deployed and that sacrifice must be acknowledged.
“As the President rightly said tonight; “In this election year, let us show our fellow Americans that we recognize our responsibilities and are determined to meet them. And let us show them that Republicans and Democrats can compete for votes and cooperate for results at the same time.” The American people recently witnessed the real results Congress can achieve when working together as we sent an energy bill with the first increase in fuel efficiency standards to the President. There is substantial work still to be done, but it can and should be done with the cooperation of both parties.”
Dennisville – As a parent of a Tech student it would be great if the school would update their staff directory. So many old staff still listed and no new teachers listed. What gives?
