WASHINGTON –- Continuing his commitment to South Jersey veterans, U.S. Representative Frank A. LoBiondo (R-2nd) today (Thursday, May 6) detailed his plans to hold the next enrollment clinic in Bridgeton at American Legion Post #95 to help local veterans in determining their eligibility and, if eligible, facilitate their participation in the VA healthcare system.
The Bridgeton enrollment clinic will be held on Monday, May 24.
“For too long, our veterans have had to actually leave the state to receive medical treatment at VA centers. With a substantial veterans population here in South Jersey, the more local veterans registered into the VA system will bolster our claims of a significant need for local services,” said LoBiondo. “I remain committed to our veterans and will continue to host these clinics while working to expand local access to healthcare.”
Despite the VA’s claims that there is insufficient need, LoBiondo has long advocated for greater local healthcare services for South Jersey veterans. During the past few years, the Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland has established and increased optometry and audiology services for local veterans, decreasing the need for them to commute to the Wilmington VA Medical Center for treatment. LoBiondo continues to work with VA officials and local veterans groups on bringing additional services to the four VA community-based clinics (Vineland, Ventnor, Cape May, Sewell).
As at previous enrollment clinics, there will be representatives from the Wilmington VA Medical Center on hand to answer veterans’ questions and explain eligibility requirements. The VA recently announced it has re-opened enrollment to its medical benefits package for Category 8 veterans by increasing the income threshold by 10 percent. Category 8 veterans are strongly encouraged to attend and enroll. Veterans who plan to attend are asked to bring their DD-214 forms and tax forms.
Details of the Veterans Enrollment Clinic on Monday, May 24th are as follows:
Cumberland County, American Legion Post #95, 30 North Burlington Road, Bridgeton, 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Veterans can also determine their eligibility and enroll in the VA healthcare system, and ask additional questions as well, by contacting the VA at 1-877-222-VETS or visit the website www.va.gov.
This will be the seventh enrollment clinic hosted by LoBiondo across South Jersey, with sessions in Somers Point, Court House, Elmer, and Vineland. For additional information, veterans are encouraged to call LoBiondo’s Mays Landing Office at 609-625-5008 or 1-800-471-4450.
